Here in Britain, the arrival of the summer sunshine heralds the influx of bare legs – but how can you make sure you stay on trend whilst also staying cool? Shorts have come a long way since the days of embarrassing high waisted efforts or flimsy athletic shorts, today the humble short can be paired with a wide range of clothing to create a stylish look to take you through the summer. Cargo or CarNO?

Cargo shorts can be tricky. Worn correctly and they can look effortlessly relaxed and stylish, worn the wrong way and you run the risk of looking like a Boy Scout Leader on an expedition into the woods. The key to cargo shorts is the length, opt for a pair that ends an inch or two above the knee and avoid large, chunky pockets unless you need to carry a compass and a packed lunch.

Who wears short shorts?

Unless it’s in the gym or for lounging around the pool, ‘short shorts’ should typically be avoided. Anything that can be described as ‘airy’ should not be worn to the pub or for a trip to the shops, however a tailored pair of above the knee shorts is acceptable if matched with a t-shirt or polo shirt.
